In the Super Mario series of video games, Mario typically jumps on a flag pole at the end of a level. The flag pole marks the end of the stage or level, and Mario often slides down the flag pole as a triumphant conclusion to the level. The higher on the flag pole Mario manages to land, the more bonus points are awarded.
