This system included 84 fans in four ventilation buildings (two on each side of the tunnel) capable of completely changing the air within the tunnel every 90 seconds.
Spanning approximately 8,558 feet (2,608 meters), the Holland Tunnel was also the longest underwater vehicular tunnel when it was completed. Its construction set precedents in terms of both design and engineering, influencing future tunnel projects around the world.
